IMPROVING COMMUNICATION

Not everyone is interested in further developing communication skills when going through a divorce. For those who are, the Enneagram provides a resource for recognizing strengths and accepting limitations. For many, it provides the necessary direction and understanding to prevent the repetition of old relationship habits, while influencing growth within remaining relationships with family and friends.

"Nothing changes more consistently than the past ...
the past that influences our lives (is) not what actually happened
but what (we) believe happened."

-Gerald W. Johnson

The Enneagram is a dynamic system of understanding people…our patterns in thinking, feeling and behaving. While we are each constructed of elements of all 9 Types of the Enneagram, we have a tendency to operate primarily from one dominant type.  This dominant type blends with other types in varying degrees to create a dynamic and unique interpretation of life for each individual.

Each of the 9 personality profiles in all their variations describe a distinct and fundamentally different pattern of thinking, feeling and acting.  An understanding of our own Type as well as the types of those we interact with regularly offers profound insight about why people behave the way they do.

The Enneagram helps individuals to develop self-awareness about their own strengths and potential blind spots.  In doing so, it offers insight into the perceptions and world views of others which might conflict with your own perceptions and lead to conflict in communication.  Often the behaviors and reactions we take personally are rooted in something entirely unrelated to the situation at hand.  Developing an understanding of the Enneagram allows people to step outside of themselves and the situation to take a closer look at what is really happening from all perspectives.

Often a basic understanding of the Enneagram has a profound impact on relationships that have been challenged for years.
