HELPING YOUR PARENTS
Your parents have always been there for you…or maybe they haven’t. Either way, there comes a time when they may need your help. Either one parent passes leaving the other both lonely and overwhelmed with responsibility, or both parents are entrenched in navigating the difficulties associated with aging. The advent of such occurrences can uproot an already busy extended family and invoke feelings of guilt, and sometimes internal hostility to name just a couple. Multiple siblings with differing lifestyles and perceptions of responsibilities often inadvertently exacerbate anxieties.
Mediation offers a neutral space to discuss the modifications necessary to ease the strain and enhance everyone’s quality of life. Topics such as living arrangements, power of attorney, financial concerns and socialization needs can be navigated while honoring the needs and desires of everyone involved.
Mediation is both reactive and proactive. It provides the ability to work through the presenting issue and make informed decisions, while preventing future family turmoil. Mediators typically have a large referral base. As such, they can point you in the right direction for information and guidance in the areas of Medicare and Medicaid as well as assisted living and recreational groups where applicable.
