The benefits of Mediation are non-discriminatory. All people can benefit from the impartiality and non-adversarial focus of Mediation services, whether you are married/unmarried, gay or lesbian/straight, uni-racial/bi-racial, living together/owning together, business partners/life partners etc.
The issues faced by families who are married can be different from those who are not. Marriage carries certain privileges and rights. As such the law provides guidance surrounding the navigation of marriage separations. (My apologies to anyone who was not able to marry due to the limitations of the system. We take the unique aspects of your situation into consideration, knowing that one or both of you may be feeling more vulnerable both financially and emotionally under the circumstances. Often it is beneficial to borrow legal standards to help define the navigation of separation. However, this is something to be discussed and agreed upon in Mediation. Your Mediator is skilled in helping you to determine what will work best in your particular case. Consistent with all cases ending in agreement, the Mediator will prepare a written “Memorandum of Understanding” at the conclusion of Mediation.
